People's has been an approved
site for the Commissioned Corps of the National
Health Service Corps Scholar program, Loan Repayment
Program, the Ready Responder Program and the J-1 Visa
Program. In order to qualify, People's facilities must be
located in Health Professions Shortage Areas
(HPSA). All communities served by People's
currently qualify for this HPSA status.
National Health Service Corps Scholars are those
students who attend medical or dental school
with the tuition paid by the federal government.
The student must agree to serve for up to
four years in an approved entity within
a Health Professions Shortage Area in return
for the tuition payments. Loan Repayment
providers are those who graduate from medical
or dental schools with student loans. The
federal government will assist with loan
repayment of these tuition loans in return
for the physician/dentist, nurse, dental hygienist
and other disciplines working full time at an approved
entity within a Health Professions Shortage Area.
