	Our History

We’ve come a long way since 1970.

It’s been over 40 years since a coalition of Baltimore activists established a medical clinic in a rowhouse near the corner of 30th Street and Greenmount Avenue. The Black Panthers, the Coalition of Women’s Liberation and the Baltimore Defense Committee shared a vision that access to medical care shouldn’t be limited to the wealthy.

Our founders started the clinic – the first of its kind on the East Coast – as a sister facility to the Berkeley, California Free Clinic. This same pioneer spirit and philosophy of empowerment has driven the survival, growth and expansion of People’s for more than four decades. Today, we operate multiple clinics in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County and employ the most committed doctors, nurses and medical staff anywhere.

All these years later, we’re still advocates for health care for all.
